Also known as a ferry cap screw, a twelve point bolt offers an alternative head design for a standard hex bolt. The twelve point design permits greater torque to be applied to the screw and reduces rounding out of the hex head that sometimes occurs with standard hex cap screws.  A 12 Point design also offers the same bearing surface as a hex head cap screw or socket head screw of comparable size. Another feature is better torque distribution due to less peak loads.

12 point bolts can be used in practically any application that a regular hex head bolt is used.  Racing vehicles are commonly found to have many uses for 12 point bolts. With the constant jarring and vibration that high velocity engines can produce, the extra torque that can be applied to a 12 point bolt helps to prevent loosening.

If ever you have tried to remove a hex bolt with a rounded head, you know the aggravation it can cause. To make things worse, try removing a rusted or corroded bolt with a rounded head. Titanium 12 point bolts will solve both of these problems at once. Since it will remain corrosion free in the natural environment perpetually, a titanium bolt will never freeze in place making it nearly impossible to remove.

Not only are they corrosion proof, titanium 12 point bolts are stronger as well. A grade 5 (6Al-4V) titanium bolt has a yield strength of 128,000 PSI, approximately 3 and a half times as stronger than 316 stainless steel.
