These taper head star drive screws are TRUE TITANIUM(TM), specifically Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V). Taper head screws first gained mass acceptance in the aerospace industry in order to reduce weight. They are normally made from Grade 5 titanium, a common aerospace alloy that has been used in commercial aircraft for decades.
The Ring around the head is a trademark so you can quickly identify that the screw is manufactured from a high strength titanium alloy, versus unalloyed titanium. With a minimum yield strength of 128,000 psi (880 Mpa), they are designed for structural applications in race cars, sailboats, powerboats, engines, bicycles, etc.
With carbon fiber and composites part of the mass movement to light weight, these taper head screws are a wonderful fit because they are on the top of the galvanic scale with carbon fiber. This is why engineers specify titanium fasteners for use with carbon fiber and composites.
